Philanthropy
On a local level Gamma Omicron participates in several philanthropy projects throughout the year. The philanthropic events we are most known for include our annual Mr. Wyoming Pageant, Safe Treat and Wing Fling. During the fall semester every year here at UW the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma host an annual Mr. Wyoming Pageant. This is no traditional beauty pageant; it's a hilarious night for everyone who wants to see fellow male students of Wyoming show off their evening wear, express their talents, and participate in the interview question round. Year in and year out the auditorium sells out to Wyoming students, parents, friends, and anyone else who wants to join in on the fun. All proceeds of the Mr. Wyoming Pageant go towards helping the Albany County Red Cross. | ![]() |
![]() | Safe Treat is a community event the Kappa women participate in every Halloween. On this night the chapter opens its door to children who live in the Laramie community who want to enjoy a night that is more than just trick-or-treating. All of the women in Kappa dress up in their costumes for the occasion and host several different Halloween themed games and activities for the children to enjoy. This past year some of the games included "Guess the Body Part", cookie decorating, face painting, and "Pin the Bone on the Skeleton". Each child is guaranteed to leave with candy in tow and an experience he or she will never forget! |
Every March, during the college basketball season, the Kappa women of Wyoming host an annual Wing Fling event. We open our doors to Wyoming students and residents of the Laramie community to join us in a BBQ chicken wing feast before attending a UW basketball game later the same day. With help from local restaurants and stores Kappa women cook up chicken wings, pizza, popcorn, and other game day favorites for everyone to enjoy. For a cost of $5 anyone can come join in the all-you-can-eat environment (a great deal for starving college students)! All of the money raised from the Wing Fling event goes towards our national philanthropy Reading is FUNdamental (RIF), which helps build a literate nation by helping children find joy in reading. |
